Die Europäische Zentralbank EZB verfügt deruzeit über Staatsanleihen von 194,5 Milliarden Euro und darin enthalten sind Anleihen deren Wert sich auf 8 Milliarden Euro belief und letzte Woche erworben wurden. Eine Woche zuvor hatten sich die Anleihekäufe noch auf 4,5 Milliarden Euro belaufen. Seit Mai 2010 werden Staatsanleihen aufgekauft und sorgt für sinkende Zinsen in den Ländern wie Italien, Griechenland oder Spanien die hohe Zinssätze auf ihre herausgegebenen Anleihen zu zahlen haben.
Die finanziell angeschlagenen Ländern erhalten durch diese Maßnahme zwar weiterhin Geld über die Kapitalmärkte aber auf der anderen Seite verursacht dies eine Marktverzerrung. Bei der EZB herrscht ein gewisser Streit darüber ob die Anleihekäufe sicher sind oder nicht. Die eigentliche Aufgabe der Zentralbank ist die Preisstabilität und nicht der Erwerb von Staatsanleihen zur Stützung der Märkte. Die Maßnahmen sollten nach einer Forderung Frankreichs und einiger Banken ausgedehnt werden aber trifft bei der Deutschen Bundesbank auf Ablehnung. Die europäische Einheitswährung Euro ist durch die Schuldenkrise der EU-Länder stark bedroht und schlimmsten Fall könnte sie aufgegeben werden.
