Die schwer angeschlagene IKB Bank könnte bereits im Sommer verkauft werden und einen neuen Eigentümer haben. Der Eigentümer ist der Finanzinvestor Lone Star und das Unternehmen stellte die Bank im September 2010 zum Verkauf aber fand keine Käufer. Die Kaufinteressenten zeigen sich wegen der finanziellen Altlasten der IKB skeptisch und haben bisher kein Kaufangebot. Die französische Großbank BNP Paribas gilt als stärkster Interessent und fordert eine fast vollständige Freistellung der Risiken. Im Geschäftsjahr 2010 hatte die IKB einen Nettogewinn von 52 Millionen Euro erwirtschaftet nachdem im Vorjahr ein knapp 1 Milliarde Euro schwerer Verlust eingefahren worden war.
Zur Zeit erhält die Mittelstandsbank noch Finanzhilfen durch den Bankenrettungsfonds Soffin. Die Soffin gewährte Garantien in Höhe von 8,6 Milliarden Euro und erhielt dafür 126 Millionen Euro an Provisionen. Im Januar 2012 enden die Soffin-Anleihen von 1,8 Milliarden Euro und ein Jahr später laufen weitere 3,8 Milliarden Euro an Anleihen aus. Der neue Eigentümer muss allerdings lange warten bis die IKB wieder ordentliche Gewinne einfahren wird, denn vorerst müssen noch Hybridpapiere und Zinsen bedient werden.
