Die Banken haben ein Angebot für die Erhebung von Gebühren für das Geldabheben an fremden Geldautomaten vorgelegt. Das Angebot hat das Kartellamt abgelehnt und stuft die Maximalgrenze von 5 Euro Gebühr pro Abhebung als zu hoch ein. Die Behörde setzt nun alles daran dass die Banken endlich geringere Gebühren kassieren. Das Kartellamt hat Befürchtungen, dass sich der vorgeschlagene Höchstbetrag praktisch zu einem Festbetrag entwickeln könnte. Die Automatenbetreiber hätten dann nur wenig Anreize überhaupt unter den Preisvorschlag zu bleiben.
Zur Zeit verlangen die Banken bis zu 10 Euro pro Geldabhebung an fremden Geldautomaten obwohl sich die Kosten je Transaktion nach aktuellen Berechnungen nur auf 63 Cent belaufen. Die durchschnittliche Gebühr fürs Geldabheben von Fremdkunden liegt bei 5,64 Euro. Seit Monaten bereits gibt es einen Streit zwischen Banken und Politik über die Höhe der Gebühren. Aufgrund der Ablehnung wird es wohl noch eine Weile dauern bis ein Kostenmodell eingeführt wird. Die Bankkunden sehen sich mit hohen Kosten bei der Geldabhebung konfrontiert und deshalb sollte die Politik endlich handeln. Die Einführung einer gesetzlich festgelegten Maximalgebühr wäre durchaus denkbar um die Banken in die Schranken weisen zu können.
